You want not only the best product, but the best deal. So, you may not be the expert on leather chairs, heck you might not know anything about leather, or chairs for that matter. That’s where we come in.
We have dealt with the hassles of buying new furniture, and we know a thing or two about leather chairs. Trust me, there are tons of chairs out there! You will be amazed at the selection. But first off, do you know anything about leather? This part is important, because maybe leather is not for you. Leather is made by tanning the hides of animals. Tanning occurs when the protein of the raw hide or skin of animals is converted into a stable material and is mainly done using cattle. But there are exceptions, and lamb and deer skin make for softer and more expensive alternatives. There is also leather made by pigskin, elk skin, bison skin, kangaroo, alligator, goat, hog, yak, and ostrich skin!

There are many benefits to leather, and therefore to leather furniture. First off, leather is very durable, but its also versatile. Leather is also pretty water resistant, and it can be oiled to further improve it. Leather is a byproduct of the meats in the meat industry. So do not confuse it with being a part of the fur company. There are various forms and types of leather with which you should become familiar with if you are planning to purchase leather furniture at some point.
There is vegetable tanned leather, chrome tanned leather, aldehyde tanned leather, synthetic tanned leather, Alum tanned leather, and rawhide. If you have a dog you probably recognized the last one, as it is used in many types of dog bones and chews. This last one is not in the technical sense “leather”, although it is still grouped in.
The various forms of leather include: full-grain / top-grain, which uses the uppermost section of the animal hide, corrected grain which is like top grain, but has had the skin surface sanded or buffed to remove imperfections, the third is called split leather and is created using the remains after the top-grain hide has been removed. There are many more types that are slightly less common which include: patent leather, buckskin, shagreen, vachetta leather, slink, deerskin, and nutbuck.
As you can see there is a lot to choose from, although not all of these forms and types will be found in models of leather chairs. Although leather is very durable, you also have to worry about the upkeep and caring of your leather product. The fibers will break down over time. As you can see, there is so much to learn about leather! Its not as simple as it appears, but we are here to help you unravel all of the mysteries that lie within the seemingly simple purchase of a leather chair.
